Light Bulb Moment

I'm very new to blogging and apologize for not being a great writer, but wanted to create a blog to help people who have a great idea take the plunge and get noticed.

Let me introduce myself. I'm Rob Shoesmith and by day I work as a trash collector and by night I help develop and market Iphone apps.

You are probraly thinking how on earth did a trash collector get into Iphone devlopment? The answer is a bit of luck and a lot of hard work.

The last few years have been an incredible experience to say the least. I studied for a degree in internet marketing in Derby England but due to a lack of maturity on my part I had to quit my course. I spent far to much time on the social aspect of university lfe and not the studying.

I learnt the hard way, so after leaving university in severe financial difficulty, I managed to find a job as a trash collector with a view to help pay off my debts, so I could return to finish my studies. Well that was the idea anyway, but its funny how life turns out sometimes. 6 years later and I'm still a trash collector but am also heavily involved with the world of smartphone apps. I guess I was in a bit of a rut and looking for a break.

To my girlfriend Sarah's annoyance I don't always like taking the traditional route in life and knew if I wanted a job in marketing and pr I wouldn't even get short listed due to a lack of hands on experience.

About 18 months ago I was looking at apps on my Iphone and came across an app called the app incubator. The company MEDL Mobile were looking for people to come up with app ideas. If they like the idea they pay all the development costs and give you a share of the apps revenue back.

With my love of tech and marketing this was one opportunity I couldn't turn down. I lacked the technical skills to code an app but knew I could market myself. Over the following couple of weeks I must have brainstormed and submitted over 50 app ideas to the app incubator. I wasn't that confident in getting a reply as I knew MEDL Mobile would have received a lot of ideas.

To my delight about a week later I received an email back from one of the co founders of MEDL Mobile Dave Swartz saying he was interested in one of my app ideas Problem Halved.

In my next blog entry I will tell you about how Problem Halved has changed my life. As my blog progresses I will be offering tips on practical and realistic ways to market yourself drawing upon my own experiences.

I will be looking to update this blog at least once a fortnight if not more.

Until next time.
